Ecohydrological impact assessment of climate change

Results of simulated groundwater levels for different climate scenarios for the Baakse Beek region in the Netherlands were translated into the habitat factors oxygen stress (OS) and drought stress (DS).

First, using the specialized software, transfer functions tailored to the region were calculated for the local meteorological conditions, for two climate scenarios, and for the 21 soil types present in the region. Then, maps of OS and DS were created for current and future climatic conditions, by applying the transfer functions as a post-processor on the simulated groundwater levels.

OS and DS were input for the Probe ecohydrological prediction model, with which maps of occurrence probabilities of vegetation types were produced.
