Assessing the microbial safety of drinking water

A drinking water company uses surface water for the production of drinking water. At the local treatment plant the following pathogens have been observed in the source water: enteroviruses (rotavirus), Campylobacter and Cryptosporidium.

The treatment plant uses conventional treatment (coagulation/sedimentation and rapid sand filtration), UV disinfection, GAC filtration and slow sand filtration operated under the Weesperkarspel conditions.
